Kingston Christmas Lights 2013

Katie’s social enterprise, Circus Suburbia, provided the walkabout entertainment for this year’s Christmas Lights Switch-On in Kingston-upon-Thames.

The theme of the event was circus, as this year’s family Christmas show at the Rose Theatre Kingston is the Snow Gorilla, set in a circus. Circus Suburbia provided circus character stilt walkers, white snow themed stilt walkers, giant Christmas bell stilt walkers, a mime clown and a trio of acrobatic “chaps” to entertain the shoppers who came to watch the lights being turned on.

Circus Suburbia worked with the Cellar Door Group to provide KingstonFirst with a high quality selection of performers to put Kingston on high on the list for a Christmas shopping destination.

The acrobats flirted with the Radio Jackie presenter who was broadcasting live from Clarence Street, lifting her up and performing daring acrobatic tricks on the radio station’s stage. The bell stilt walkers rang hand-held bells to ring in the visitors, and having three white snow stilt walkers created a striking visual impact. The clown gripped shoppers with her dance and mime skills, and the circus stilt walkers were a fun and colourful statement to show that the circus had arrived, with big ribbons and even bigger hair.
